Does Freddy Adu fit the Union?

No Comments MLS, Union

I have been reading the news sites all week and apparently the Union have signed a former child prodigy who fell on hard times. No, not Corey Feldman, some guy named Adu.

First Things First

Do we need Freddy?

Adu plays the creative CAM role, he is also able to play on the wing. It’s the position that Paunovic has been starting in the last few games. Roger Torres is also best employed there. We also have Nakazawa who plays best when he has that space to run into, and Daniel has also said he prefers to play CM and attack. So the Union have a wealth of resources in that position.

Is Freddy an upgrade?

The Madness of King Pitor (part two)

No Comments MLS, Union

We left our protagonist sitting on top of the table with the future looking bright.

but, in every good story there is a but

In the background there is turmoil, LeToux dares to speak publicly about his discontent on the wing. We still don’t own arguably our best player in Carlos Valdes. Who the hell is this Juan Diego Gonzales guy anyway? The questions and the debates abound (thankfully for me).

Then comes the announcement that Carlos Ruiz is no longer a Philadelphia Union player. What followed can only be described in Mexican Soap Opera Style

The Madness of King Pitor (part one)

No Comments MLS, Union

Editors Note: This will be published in two parts because of length. It was written as one but I realized that after I passed the 1000 word mark it was too big to read all at once.

I would like to start this by saying that I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth, and Yes, I realize that we are a second year team.

I have one question in my head during most matches “What the HELL is Nowak thinking!?!?!?”

If we go through the litany of “judgement” calls by Nowak. I am certain we can make a case to have him 302′d (involuntary Psychiatric internment). Just this season alone some remarkable lapses in sanity have taken place.

Midseason Friendlies

No Comments MLS, Union

The Mighty Everton is coming to PPL Park on July 20th, and the great unwashed masses of American “soccer” are in raptures. As the beloved Col. Sherman T. Potter would say “Horse Puckey!”

Et tu Rocky?

Excuse me for being underwhelmed. Although I really enjoyed our Friendlies last year, it was under completely different set of circumstances. Last year we were an expansion side trying to put bottoms in seats and generate interest of the casual fan. It certainly worked, the casual fan will turn out to watch Manchester United’s under 12′s in the tens of thousands. I would venture that if you put Man Utd Kits on 11 monkeys, it would draw 10,000 in the US.

DC Preview

No Comments MLS, Union

The Union go into July in first place in the Eastern Conference. If you would have told anyone that last year, many would have laughed. Nowak and Co. have turned the Union into genuine contenders.

The Narrative

My Personal feeling about DCU and the Barra Barra are no secret. A small recap is that at the Linc home opener, after the match. The Barra Barra picked a fight with my then visibly pregnant wife, going so far as to try to trip her simply because they lost and we were parked next to their bus. Against my nature, no one died that night, but I anxiously await the day that I can bring that child to RFK and we can DOOP our hearts out together. It will be a few years yet, but it is never too early to start.

In less significant matters, Peter Nowak returns to DC to face his former player Ben Olsen as coach. So expect Nowak to get a standing ovation in RFK, and Olsen to feel he has something to prove.
