Union get an important victory against Revolution

No Comments MLS, Union

At the end of a lousy first half, down 1-0 against the New England Revolution, the Union was given an advantage when Cory Gibbs got himself a red card.

The second half brought an impressive battle. The Revolution were down a man but kept the pressure on. Then substitution player 18 year old Jack McInerney scored the equalizer. Then with a minute or so left in stoppage time, fellow bench player Justin Mapp scored the go ahead.

Really exciting end to a well deserved victory. The Union are still without a shut out which makes a statement about the defense as a whole. Goal kepper Chris Seitz makes some great saves but always seems to cough up a cheap goal.

A great win though. Nice to see some bench players score some goals on a team that could use some great offensive sparks from other players.

Philadelphia Union get what should be a gimme against D.C. United

I haven’t written much about the Union probably because I’m the world’s biggest soccer frontrunner. Prior to this year, I can count on one hand how many games I’ve watched. Throw in the World Cup and a new MLS team in the City of Brotherly Love and I am all of a sudden really into it.

I’ve attended a few Union game this season, including their first win against MLS bottom dwellers, D.C. United this year. The Union aren’t far above them but it’s not for a lack of trying. If you watch the games, you’d see a young and spirited team that looks like they will compete for years to come. While Sebastion Le Toux is by far the team’s most valuable player, rookie Danny Mwanga isn’t far off. One could see him having a major impact on the sport in years to come. Read more

DOOP DOOP Preview & Latest Salaries released

The Union are off to face the DC United at Washington this weekend. The Union previously beat D.C. United (3-2) , which was their first historic win, at Lincoln Financial Field back in April. All three goals (hat trick) were scored of their superstar/all-star player Sebastien Le Toux, which included the game-winning strike on a free kick in the 80th minute. The Union are ahead of the DC United in standings by a 5pts.

The Union are far behind, and perhaps are way close to being eliminated from the playoffs this season. Unless by a miracle, the Union still has to win all 10 remaining games, and hope some of the teams in the West Conference fall. Not saying it wont happen, but the chances are very slim. The difference between MLS and other major league sports is that not each conference has an equal share of playoff opponents. Instead in MLS the top 8 teams from both conference plays in the playoffs. Read more
