Letter to Philadelphia Athletes

No Comments Eagles, Phillies, Sixers

Dear Philadelphia Athletes,

A fresh start is in order, and we would like to not only re-welcome you to Philadelphia, but thank you all for being brave. Philadelphia is one of the toughtest places to play professional sports in the country. I assure you, we’re a knowledgeable bunch. We do our homework on players, coaches, assistant coaches, you name it. It’s very likely we know what colleges you went to and your stats in college. If you were a free agent, we know what you did with previous teams. Suddenly, all of that becomes irrelevant. You get a new opportunity in Philadelphia to make your mark and become a fan favorite. We expect you to contribute no matter how big or small your role is. When you told people you were coming here, you heard this is a tough fanbase, huh? Unfortunately our reputation precedes us at times. Yes, we threw snowballs at Santa Claus. Fights? Unfortunately we’ve been involved in those more times than we should have.

Inconsistency Troubling

No Comments Flyers, NHL

The Philadelphia Flyers have not won consecutive games since mid-January. You can see why worry continues to be the name of the game with the legion of fans expressing their displeasure on so many different players. Paul Holmgren made some moves to help them win more games, but all it has resulted in is more losses than wins.

It’s a small sample size to draw conclusions right now, but since the Grossman acquisition, the Flyers are 1-2-0 in those three games.

Inconsistency is a tough thing to fix. Players will always tell you that there is no possible way to wake up for every single game and give the same effort. Some games get mixed into the schedule, and other ones, you get beat. Some, you get the upper hand even though you don’t deserve it. The Flyers seem to be stuck in a rut of constantly changing efforts.

One game, they can look brilliant (Winnipeg), playing hard, forechecking hard, getting scoring opportunities and finding a way to win the game. Other games, they take a period (or periods) off (Edmonton), they don’t crash the net, and their scoring chances come up short, so the goalie looks unstoppable. Again, this happens, but for an elite team like the Flyers, it’s pretty unacceptable to be wavering between two moods.

How the Sixers Can Win Their Division

No Comments NBA, Sixers

Last time Sixers won their division, this was the logo.

So a while back I said that the Sixers could win the Atlantic Division. Even in their current slump, I still think it’s possible. There are many factors that can lead them to pulling off something that they haven’t done in over 10 years. And their schedule will help a lot. Oh the schedule will have tougher opponents than before. But there are two teams that Sixers have barely faced: Celtics and Knicks.

They have only faced the Knicks once on the 3rd game in the 3rd night. There was horrible officiating and the Sixers were on the road. In fact, that game told me that the Sixers would win their division in the first place. Based on how well the Sixers played in that game, I’m pretty much convinced that the Sixers can beat the Knicks when they go against them again.

The #SIXERS vs #WOLVES controversial call….

1 Comment NBA, Sixers

This is the image of where you can clearly see Andre Iguodala hand is on the ball the entire time. There is no where close that this should been called a foul, and to actually make a call with the seconds left is even more laughable.

Here is the Video:

Watching the replay there is no clear sign that Dre fouled Kevin Love. In fact why the referee missed the Kevin Love arm block on Thad Young, prior to the actual call, was also questionable.

Long Jumpers Will Doom the Sixers

1 Comment NBA, Sixers

It’s really a “duh!” statement but it’s true. All season we saw the Sixers chuck up long ball after long ball. And they were falling at first. But that’s fool’s gold there. Attack the rim.  Sixers have players that can do that. Holiday, Turner and Lou are the main one’s that have the ability but  don’t seem to favor it. But why? Also, move the ball around. They have passers that can look for the open man instead of deciding that the best shot is 10 hands in your face, while fading away. I apologize in advance. Exaggeration is a problem I have. Do it too much sometimes. Rehab is going well though.

One hobby I have is the art of playwriting. So, in this post, I will present some of my “gift” to illustrate why the Sixers settle for these long 2′s and 3′s. It’s on the coaching mainly. And as long as coaching is okay with it, no sense in praying that Sixers will change anytime soon.
